Current preparation guidance for Indian applicants making genuine commercial and trade visits to China, including invitation and document consistency checks.
A China business visa file should explain one genuine commercial trip consistently: who is travelling, which Chinese business is involved, what activity will take place, when it will happen and who will meet the costs. The M category is for commercial and trade activities. It should not be used to describe employment or work in China.
Does the proposed trip fit the M category?
Current official category guidance describes M visas as covering commercial and trade activities, including trade-related visits and participation in economic or trade fairs. Business meetings, supplier discussions and other genuine commercial visits may fit when the documents support that purpose. Employment is a different purpose with separate requirements; Visa Expertz does not offer work-visa or immigration services.
If the trip combines several activities, identify the main purpose before preparing the form. A fair invitation, supplier meeting schedule or company visit should not be presented as tourism merely because sightseeing is planned outside business hours.
Build one consistent business record
A useful way to review the file is to compare four parties and facts:
- Applicant: passport identity, role and reason for travelling.
- Indian company: relationship with the applicant, nature of business and reason the trip is required.
- Chinese inviter: legal identity, contact details and commercial relationship.
- Trip: purpose, dates, places, meetings or fair activity, accommodation and funding.
Names, dates and purpose should agree across the online application, invitation, company covering letter and any schedule. If the Chinese inviter changes a date or venue, update the connected documents rather than submitting contradictory versions.
Core application preparation
The current center checklist should control the final file. Common preparation areas include the passport and relevant passport copies, online application information, a compliant photograph, previous Chinese visa or passport evidence where applicable, and documents supporting the commercial activity.
Do not assume that a document used for an earlier visa remains sufficient. Passport-validity expectations, copies, online uploads and physical-submission requirements are freshness-sensitive. The broader sequence is explained in the application guide for India.
What a business invitation needs to establish
New Delhi's current M-category guidance calls for commercial-activity documentation from a trade partner, a trade-fair invitation or other relevant invitation evidence. The published invitation guidance includes:

- identifying information about the applicant;
- the planned visit, including purpose, dates and places;
- the relationship between applicant and inviting party;
- any financial support connected with the visit; and
- the inviting party's name, address, telephone details, signature and applicable company authentication.
The center also lists evidence relating to the inviting company's business identity and inviter or legal-representative identification. These requirements can change, so the inviting company should use the current checklist instead of a generic internet template. A so-called “PU letter” should not be described as universally mandatory for every M application unless the current official instruction for that case specifically requires it.
Indian company and applicant documents
The Indian-side covering material should explain the applicant's role, company activity, business relationship, destinations and dates in language that matches the invitation. Supporting corporate or commercial evidence should be included only where requested or relevant. Volume is not a substitute for clarity.
If another party funds the trip, state that arrangement consistently. If the applicant is self-employed or represents their own business, use truthful documents that show that relationship; do not retrofit an employee letter.

A genuine exhibition or trade-fair visit can fall within commercial travel, but registration alone may not answer every application question. Confirm what the applicable center requests for the specific event and applicant. Online review and physical submission
Under the current online process, the applicant completes the form and uploads the requested material for review. Follow the applicable center's status and email instructions before presenting the passport and required physical documents. Online review completion is not a visa decision.
Originals, an interview, fingerprints or personal appearance should be treated as conditional requirements. Follow the instruction for the applicant's category, circumstances and center rather than assuming every business traveller has the same steps.
Business-file checks that prevent rework
- Do not describe employment as a meeting or supplier visit.
- Check that the inviter's name and company details are identical across documents.
- Align invitation dates with the application and proposed travel.
- Explain the commercial relationship rather than relying on vague wording.
- Do not request multiple entries as though they are guaranteed; the consular authority decides validity and entries.
- Check the latest center instructions before dispatching any original.
